Contrary to old-wives tales and ignorance on the part of inexperienced "breeders"; ANY color born in our litter is ACCEPTABLE (and sometimes more advisable) for breeding...ie...white, merle, mantle merle, merliquin, piebald, mantle, harlequin, mis. mantle, etc...if done properly by an EXPERIENCED breeder. Deafness is NOT inherited or passed on by breeding a white dog. HARLEQUINS & MANTLES are the 2 show colors born in a litter. They only comprise about 1-2% of the litter. Unbeknown to most, there are several other colors: various combinations of BLK/WHT/SILVER. (it is unethical and unorthodox  to pass these off for selling purposes as "RARE COLORS "!) They are 1/3 the cost and just as easy to LOVE. They are not "PET quality"... simply "PET colors". All companions & pet colors, must be neutered/spayed, (including vet. certificate) before any registration papers are issued. We keep all Harles & mantles until approximately 4-5 mos. to better assess their conformation for show. If they meet our show standards they are ONLY AVAILABLE with a show contract requiring their championship with a professional handler. If show standards are not specifically met, they become available to experienced Dane homes as loving companions. We require past ownership of a Great Dane or very large breed, require a fenced yard (invisible fencing unacceptable) and different shifts if both husband and wife work.

Danes generally have wonderful, loving, laid-back temperaments...BUT, a NEW OWNER can change all that. Without consistent training/discipline/love starting at a very early age (7-8 weeks), a NEW OWNER can create a "monster". Only in some cases do individual bloodlines have "bad" temperaments. Just as a doctor delivers your new baby; the breeder presents you with your new puppy. As a parent can ruin a child, a puppy's TEMPERAMENT will become strictly & solely the reflection of the new owners training and upbringing.

GOOD HEALTH is also inherited! Good general health is usually genetic! WE GIVE NO HEALTH, MEDICAL, or GENETIC GUARANTEES. We do not put our beloved Danes under an anesthetic unless absolutely necessary. If this situation arises, we xray hips at that time. We do NOT OFA - our xrays are read by vet. orthopedic Spec. AND human orthopedic Spec.. All original xrays are on file in OUR possession. Along with many others; below is a list of our Danes on this site or in our pedigrees that have been xrayed with VERY GOOD and VERY NORMAL hips:

Health testing & screenings are fine for the DAY they are done. But, breeders doing a screening test ONCE on a dog, then boasting to be ''free from the disease'' are totally inaccurate and are fooling themselves. Is a PAP smear done once ; a mammogram ; a PSA ; a chest xray ..etc, etc, etc. Ask yourself WHY they all MUST be repeated every 6-12 mos?? To obtain the actual FACTS; consult a human doctor/specialist as to the statistics on inaccuracies, false positives & negatives of screenings ! The veterinary profession thrives  ($$$$$$$$$) on their loyal followers blindly screening, over vaccinating, abusing drugs, antibiotics, toxic preventatives and uneccesary C-sections. Their natural immune system overpowered & repressed from years of drugs/vaccinating. We never vaccinate and have attended literally thousands of dog shows with dogs carrying all sorts of imaginable viruses.

A bloodline could be riddled with cardiomyopathy and a single puppy/adult can still get a clear cardio screening on any particular day; then DIE from it a month later. We BOAST of the healthiest lines in the country by way of 50 yrs of CONSISTENTLY DISEASE free Great Danes.

I feed all "raw". That is exactly what they ate in the wilds ; no grain, no rice, no potatoes, fruits veggies!! I feed green tripe and chicken necks 2x/day. We add 2 pet tabs daily (for life), one 1000 mg. Vit. ESTER-C daily (for life); an egg yolk twice a week, a teaspoon of oil twice a week, one pet cal every other day 4 mos thru 12 mos....and we've had nothing but healthy, chunky dogs and puppies with shiny, thick coats for 47 years. HERE is a list of the BEST & the WORST dog foods (as you will notice all the most advertised, most expensive ones obtainable at pet stores & supermarkets are the VERY worst!)

Nature has provided mom with the very best immunity...bar NONE. She passes it on to her babies with that first suck of her milk. If you've been brainwashed and feel you must vaccinate, we recommend this after 10 mos, giving their own immune system a chance to develop. Would you immunize your children at 6 weeks, 8 weeks 12 weeks..... etc etc etc ?? ( Please note: Our puppy contract states: If you vaccinate your puppy before the age of 10 mos and it gets sick OR dies, we will NOT replace or refund ). If a breeder has many years of experience (at LEAST 20 years) SHE/HE will ALWAYS be your BEST vet !

This is just OUR opinion folks...the proof is in the pudding...50 years of quality, longevity & health, what more can we say. GMJ

Dr. Jean Dodd's NEW vaccine protocol -
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -
Dr. W. Jean Dodd's vaccination protocol is now being adopted by ALL 27 North American veterinary schools. I highly recommend that you read this. Copy and save it to your files. The veterinary schools are now going to be teaching that over-vaccination of pets (once a year "boosters") is only not necessary, but in some cases can be harmful or
deadly! It has information for both dogs and cats. There still is an ongoing study regarding the Rabies vaccine. Most states now allow (reluctantly) 3 year Rabies, but the study is collecting data on whether or not even that may be too much. They are looking at 8 or 10 year Rabies! I hope you all stop having yearly boosters for your pets. If you're concerned with immune levels, have the vet run a Titer test. THEN and only then, if the levels are below acceptable, should you have a booster. After all, when is the last time you had a "booster" for smallpox, or whooping cough, or anything else you had shots for as a child? Immune systems work the same in all mammals, and the concept that pets have to have yearly shots doesn't make any more sense than if you had have shots every year. If mammals immune systems were that weak in fending off these things, all of them, us included, would have been extinct years ago!

Some of this information will present an ethical & economic challenge to vets, and there will be skeptics. Some (VET!) organizations have come up with a political compromise suggesting vaccinations every 3 years to appease those who fear loss of income vs those concerned about potential side effects. Politics, traditions, or the doctor's economic well being should NOT be a factor in medical decision.

NEW PRINCIPLES OF IMMUNOLOGY
"Dogs and cats immune systems mature fully at 6 months. If a modified live virus (MLV) vaccine is given after 6 months of age, it produces an immunity which is good for the life of the pet (i.e: canine distemper, parvo, feline distemper). If another MLV vaccine is given a year later, the antibodies from the first vaccine neutralize the antigens of the second vaccine and there is little or no effect. The titer is not "boosted" nor are more memory cells induced." Not only are annual boosters for parvo and distemper unnecessary, they subject the pet to potential risks of allergic reactions and immune-mediated hemolytic anemia. "There is no scientific documentation to back up label claims for annual administration of MLV vaccines." Puppies receive antibodies through their mother's milk. This natural protection can last 8-14 weeks. Puppies & kittens should NOT be vaccinated at LESS than 8 weeks. Maternal immunity will neutralize the vaccine and little protection (0-38%) will be produced. Vaccination at 6 weeks will, however, delay the timing of the first highly effective vaccine. Vaccinations given 2 weeks apart suppress rather than stimulate the immune system. A series of vaccinations is given starting at 8 weeks and given 3-4 weeks apart up to 16 weeks of age. Another vaccination given sometime after 6 months of age (usually at 1 year 4 months) will provide lifetime immunity.

**VACCINATIONS NOT RECOMMENDED* *
Multiple components in vaccines compete with each other for the immune system and result in lesser immunity for each individual disease as well as increasing the risk of a reaction. Canine Corona Virus is only a disease of puppies. It is rare, self limiting (dogs get well in 3 days without treatment). Cornell & Texas A&M have only diagnosed one case each in the last 7 years. Corona virus does not cause disease in adult dogs.**Leptospirosis vaccine is a common cause of adverse reactions in dogs. Most of the clinical cases of lepto reported in dogs in the US are caused by serovaars (or types) grippotyphosa and bratsilvia. The vaccines contain different serovaars eanicola and ictohemorrhagica. Cross protection is not provided and protection is short lived. Lepto vaccine is immuno-supressive to puppies less than 16 weeks.

CONCLUSION
Dogs & cats no longer need to be vaccinated against distemper, parvo, & feline leukemia every year. Once the initial series of puppy or kitten vaccinations and first annual vaccinations are completed, immunity from MLV vaccines persists for life. It has been shown that cats over 1 year of age are immune to Feline Leukemia whether they have been vaccinated or not.

Imagine the money you will save, not to mention fewer risks from side risk of mediated hemolytic anemia and allergic reactions are reduced by less frequent use of vaccines as well as by avoiding unnecessary vaccines such as K-9 Corona virus and chlamydia for cats, as well as ineffective vaccines such as Leptospirosis and FIP. The AAHA and all 27 veterinary schools of North America are our biggest
endorsement for these new protocols.*
